The maritime reallab homePORT

Trying out and experimenting under real conditions

Real labs turn theory into practice

With our Urban Tech Playgrounds, we accompany hardware-heavy product innovations from theory to practice. In our view, without a test room, there is a danger that innovative products and services for the port of the future will only be tested and developed abroad. Connect with other homePORT partners and test your innovations with us.

In addition to an approx. 120m²  workshop room, the homePORT real laboratory also has various test areas for drone tests on land, in the water or in the air, as well as parking areas for further containers to complement our container campus.

At homePORT we offer you
Space to try things out and experiment - under real conditions directly in the harbour
the possibility to transform ideas into real-life applications
the chance to rethink business models and applications and to try out these ideas in practice

Take the chance and shape the port of the future with your innovative ideas

Test areas to experiment on

With our test areas, we offer players the opportunity to book special areas and HPA infrastructures for the development of product innovations or new services under real conditions. After all, maritime and logistics product innovations are rarely purely digital. With homePORT, we create a space for trying out, experimenting and demonstrating hardware-based prototypes and products under development for players from business, science and start-ups.
Additive manufacturing

A maritime makerspace for prototypes and spare parts

With the maritime makerspace at homePORT, we aim to bring digital manufacturing based primarily on open-source hardware to the port. Production and other machines as well as physical products can be printed according to freely available blueprints or redeveloped based on the redesign process. homePORT's makerspace will be part of the decentralised Hamburg-wide manufacturing infrastructure of the Fab Lab community, which consists of various open workshops. The equipment will range from simple screwdrivers to modern digital production machines.
