Retrospect: ITS World Congress 2021 at homePORT

During the ITS World Congress, the homePORT became the dronePORT.

The ITS World Congress 2021 in Hamburg took place not only in the CCH exhibition halls but also at homePORT. From 11 to 15 October 2021, visitors were able to marvel at numerous demonstrations at the port of Hamburg. Participants learned about innovative mobility and transport solutions. In the conference section "New Services from New Technologies", experts and manufacturers presented the latest developments in the field of urban air mobility, such as air taxis, parcel delivery through the air and data collection by drone, autonomous infrastructure management solutions on and under water or mobile 3D printing solutions.

Wie könnt ihr dabei sein?



Um in der Woche vom 11. - 15. Oktober ohne Einschränkung beim homePORT dabei sein zu können, benötigt ihr ein reguläres ITS-Ticket. Selbstverständlich könnt ihr mit diesem Ticket dann auch die reguläre Messe in den Messehallen besuchen. Welche Tickets es gibt und welche Vorteile ihr damit habt, erfahrt ihr über folgenden Link. Wir freuen uns auf spannende Tage mit euch.


Public Day 14.10.

Wer kein Ticket kaufen möchte, kann jedoch auch völlig kostenlos das homePORT-Gelände während des ITS besuchen. Möglich macht dies der Bürgertag/Public Day, welcher am Donnerstag, den 14. Oktober stattfindet und kostenlosen Einlass zu allen ITS-Standorten für alle ermöglicht, die sich über den nachfolgenden Link angemeldet haben. Schaut also auch gerne ganz unverbindlich vorbei.

Groundbreaking product innovations

Every day exciting demonstrations took place on the homePORT site, no matter whether flying, swimming or underwater drones. You can find short video recordings of some of the demonstrations.


The autonomous surface vehicle

Echo1 is the Hamburg Port Authority’s autonomous surface vehicle for water depth maintenance. In the field of hydrography, it supports colleagues in the continuous water measurement of the Elbe in the Port of Hamburg. With a length of only 1.65 metres and equipped with two powerful batteries, “echo.1” can travel for up to six hours non-stop in the Port of Hamburg without any emissions.


First cargo flight of the VoloDrone

During the ITS World Congress 2021, the first public flight of the VoloDrone took place in Hamburg by the company Volocopter. The transport box under the flying object has a volume of 1.6 cubic metres. The maximum payload including the transport box is 200 kg. The VoloDrone is powered by 18 electric rotors on a ring with a radius of 9.2 metres. The charging process takes a maximum of five minutes. In the configuration shown, the VoloDrone flies 35 to 40 km, depending on wind conditions. The maximum flight time is up to 30 minutes.

Ein Bus-Shuttle verkehrt ab 08:50 Uhr alle 30 Minuten zwischen Messe Hamburg und Landungsbrücken (Zugang zum homePORT). Von den Landungsbrücken erreichen Sie den homePORT entweder zu Fuß durch den St. Pauli Elbtunnel oder mit der HADAG Fähre 75 (Landungsbrücken (Brücke 2) - Steinwerder).

Experience Future Mobility

In addition to the presentations in the congress and exhibition areas, the focus will be on experiencing unmanned aviation up close - the demonstrations. The main theme "Experience Future Mobility" is the focus here and is particularly exciting for the homePORT community. Furthermore, for Hamburg as a model city for Urban Air Mobility, unmanned aviation is also an important aspect from a strategic perspective.
