Water test areas for experimentation

Water test areas in the middle of the Port

In line with our vision of sustainably shaping the maritime scene with new disruptive technologies through collaboration and innovation, homePORT aims to connect interested stakeholders and be understood as an open innovation platform. We offer you the necessary space and resources to develop your prototypes into fully functional technologies while respecting regulatory frameworks. Various regional as well as national companies & institutions strengthen our project. As the BMWI said: "[...] for a good future Germany needs innovative minds". With us, these "innovative minds" get a chance to grow up together.

Focused on the maritime sector

Are you an innovator or a change maker? You work in a startup or have founded one? Are you part of an innovative company or of a port player looking for new challenges? Then become part of homePORT: we connect and promote exchange and knowledge transfer across company boundaries. The port of the future is being shaped by smart companies. Our goal is that everyone benefits from the change and that the competitiveness of the entire metropolitan region is positively influenced.

Water test area at the Norderloch in the middle of the Hamburg harbor

In the middle of the Hamburg port lies the Norderloch, a side canal where you have the possibility to test your prototypes. With the old Elbtunnel, the homePORT land test area and the homePORT Makerspaces nearby, this location offers the perfect connection for your (under)water drone tests. We take care of the permissions you would normally have to apply for on your own, so you can fully concentrate on testing in a real port environment.

Kaiser-Wilhelm-Harbor at Cruise Center Steinwerder

At Cruise Center Steinwerder is the waterside test area Kaiser-Wilhelm-Hafen, a water area at the cruise terminal where you have the possibility to test your prototypes. We support you with permits, which you normally have to apply for on your own at the port administration.Legal conditions are no longer your primary concern. Under real conditions you can initiate tests that are in no way inferior to real use.
